The wizards are charlatans

The Wizard of Trump

Listening to Mr. Trump I remember the Wizard of Oz. Like the charlatan of old, Wizard Trump lives in his own world from which he projects out upon us via his tuits from his shielded ivory tower in the heart of a perfect world. As Dorothy, Straw Man, Tin Man and the Lion, millions rush to his gates in search of magic solutions to a reality they dislike, fear and against which they know not how to/want to adapt.. Like the head of Land of Oz, he goes on screen to proclaim his own greatness and the misery of all who would contrary him or his views. Of course, outrage against opposition is far easier and more fun that self-criticism.

Wizard Trump and his legions of trumpeters thrive on exaggerations for confusion. They channel it into deeper resentment against those dirty, ignorant thugs, lazy bums and rapists who inhabit the outer, cruel and threatening world beyond Oz who are seeping in and are destroying the America he now promises to rebuild as we  march along in line behind him, magic wand in hand. Our Botox Oz preaches with fervor that the wizardom needs its fortress type walls with strong gates. Keep them out! Throw them out! Back to the purity of the real America the new wizard will build for us to live in forever after  happiness from sea to shining sea.

The wizard is a scary man because he believes  the fantasies he ruminates about aloud. His self-satisfied attitude as he states that he is fully capable of running his empire and the US at the same time without missing a beat is evidence of his exalted vision of his personal merit. The wizard´s casual suggestion that the defense of the Baltic states might not be significant on his agenda or his repetition of the suggestion that the one China policy, in place since President Nixon, may be abolished as the foundation of US foreign relations in Asia are staggering blows to the alliances that allow us to maintain our status as a world power. Indeed, the wizard spends his time broadcasting his many baseless conclusions about the future and his plans to reprogram it on what he admits are not studied conclusions but instinctual reactions. We can only hope that much of the wizard´s thoughts for actions will pass for what they are: gas.

The hopeful tell us that from the campaign trail to reality Mr. Trump will change- Why? On what do they base such illusions on? Isn´t today´s wizard the same charlatan he was two months ago? Why should he moderate his mouth? After all, things went very well for him when he blurted out anything that sounded simple, aggressive and sincerely off the cuff and from the gut to win the support of the trumpeters.

Finally, much of the trauma we are going through now is the legacy of years of Democrat and Republican misgovernment. When we imagine the members of the House and Senate, I at least, am reminded of myself and pals in the play ground while in kindergarden. Remember how we thought that throwing send into someboy´s eyes was fun? Indeed, the Wizard of Trump succeeded due to the fact that the  parties have proven themselves irrelevant to many, many Americans in the difficulties found in our daily life. Like so many of his supporters, the new president is a victim of arbitrary resentment against the political establishment. In his case populist rancor is a key ingredient in the batter he mixes. Let´s keep in mind that the yellow brick road to the Land of Oz ain´t paved with gold. Charlatans and miracle medicine salesmen are artists at passing themselves off as experts to save us from our fears and bitterness without really solving what provokes them.
