The Security Council

Veto. Veto. Veto. Veto. Russia? Veto! Bow our heads and accept war crimes against humanity  now in Syria, or then  in Iraq or in South Sudan as inevitable in the real world.

Little children are put to sleep

Aya and Ahmed were two little boys who were put to bed by their mother and father in their little town in Syria. Then, while nobody was looking, Bashar al-Assad came sneaking into Shijun and quietly put them  and many others to sleep. The president of Turkey calls him an assassin as the UN debates to find an explanation for the death of small children in their beds. The UN will debate but, from experience, we can expect that the final solution handed down will allow us all to stand in silence as we bow our heads to the inevitable. Sleep well, Aya. Sleep well, Ahmed. Continue reading “Little children are put to sleep”

While children were nestled all snug in their beds… .

While children were nestled so snug in their beds, the president of Syria dropped bombs on their heads.  In these horrors the Syrian dictator  did not act alone. His sociopathic deeds were accomplished with the support of the pilots who rained death down on sleeping children dreaming of sugar plums and also by the men who loaded the gas bombs under the wings of the planes and  indeed by all those who work in and for the criminal regime of Bashar al-Assad, son of a tyrant and grandson of another. Just as in Nuremberg, there must be a trail too where these fiends are condemned for their crimes against humanity.  We cannot continue to tolerate the evils of evil men who show us again and again that evil exists and that those who practice it go unpunished.  Can any of us imagine Bashar al-Assad being allowed to address the General Assembly of the UN after the bodies are buried and the facades are repainted? It will happen as it always has happened! He is guilty. His supporters are guilty and by our silence, we are guilty of crimes against humanity. And, to all, a good night!

Hail, Cesar

Today, the Bashar al-Assad regime is accused of deadly gas attacks against hundreds of the people it claims to defend. Time will tell the truth if interests allow. If we understand what Mr. al-Assad´s broader interests are we can understand that this national savior has a dark side. In Spain these days the al-Asssad property worth is under investigation. Controlled overtly by an uncle, that  fortune is estimated at some 739,000,000 euros.  Mr. al-Assad is only one of many world leaders who have amassed wealth. Former Haitian president Jean Bertrand Aristide is estimated to have sat on a personal fortune of more than $800,000,000. Then we have the case of the Obiang family in Equatorial Guinea. The nation has a per-capita income as high as Switzerland but 78% of the population lives below the property level. Of course Mr. Noumea Obiang himself wields wealth of some 700,000,000 dollars while is son Teodoro was  prosecuted for money laundering  some euros 200,000,000  millions in France.  Who knows what the financial reality of some of our most outstanding leaders when some one as beyond all doubt like Vladimir Putin is considered one of the world´s riches men. What amazes me is that people like the doctor from Damascus and vermin like him have time to treat scores medically while running his economic/financial empire abroad? I guess that if we don´t give Cesar his worth, he will feel justified in just taking it!

The Spanish Connection, Trump-Torshin

The Spanish Guardia Civil which is a police organization in charge of Spanish ports, coasts and borders has been investigating the activities in Spain of Mr. Alexander Torshin who, according to today´s El País is a banker and close associate of Mr.  Vladimir Putin.  El País quotes its sources saying that he is “the godfather of a notorious Russian mafia” with close contacts in the Kremlin and the Trump camp. In Spain he was close to being arrested for suspicions of money laundering in Mallorca. He fled Spain and has not returned although he seems to enter and leave the United States with ease.  Mr. Torshin, again according to the Spanish press, is the president of Putin´s United Russia Party. For a fuller report on Mr. Torshin´s ties with President Putin and the Trump camp, read Mike Isikoff´s article in Yahoo News and today´s El País.
