Walls here, walls there

Today´s Spanish press tells 8s that prime minister Rajoy has expressed support for Mexico in the present situation. Such is natural given that both are Hispanic nations. Remember when we went all out for the UK in their confrontation with the evil  Argentines? Well, given the fact that Spain has double steel fences between Ceuta and Melilla and Morocco, he can´t be too vocal. Like the US, Spain too must crate barriers against a neighbor who tends to look the other way 24 hours a day. Border control and arbitrary identification of potential enemies are different matters. After decades of off and on again steps along  Rio Grande Mr. Trump´s continuation of Mr. Clinton´s and Mr. Obama´s efforts is positive if he carries through. With millions of Mexicans in the  USA the charges of racism are just silly. A nation must protect its borders against any form of invasion, hostile or not. Our home is ours. Europe´s immigration policy is a disaster.  As the Greeks, the Italians, the Hungarians, the Poles, the >Austrians and the British!

No phone calls, please

Good morning, America.

Here on the shores of Spain it is a bright sunny day already. So, I want to share with you a piece of news a reader kindly sent me during our night-time.

It seems that Mr. Paul Ryan is not receiving calls nor e-mails from this fellow citizens who demand that the Republican Party take a stand vis-a-vis the Wizard with the pen always in hand. This is great news!  If some of our Republican representatives and senators hiding from us, that means letters or post cards are an answer. Remember,  a post card to the Senate Office Building or the House Office Building will do. It will get to the little devils and word will get out that they are being deluged with paper hits from their former admirers. Let´s give senator McCain a rest. This former prisoner of war has stood up to be counted. Remember, if we write to Mr.  Rubio down there in Florida,  we should do so in English or el jefe se cabreará.

Immigration control not slamming doors

Like many others, I didn´t vote for Ms. Clinton when I voted against Mr. Trump. As some of you know I have not hidden my aversion to him under a basket. Saying that, I agree with many of you who are protesting the new travel restrictions slammed into place just this weekend. First, most illegals are from areas outside the Islamic world. In Europe the many vicious thugs with bombs, knives, guns were nationals of one country or another in the EC. They probably could have gotten a turist visa quickly as on paper, with a French or Belgian passport, they would be considered white boys and girls.  The question of land-border controls is a different issue. Millions of Hispanos have fled  to the United States to escape  the  general misery of their country. Everybody is talking about the rights of immigrants to invade the USA because they want to. The philosophy behind their demands seems to be if they want to do it, it must be OK because they want to do it. >In this way   we become our own source of inspiration and our own source of ethical authority: it´s good if I want to do it.  No. No. No!  Travel restrictions is another issue. After years of off and on again immigration efforts let´s accept that there is going to be real control  of our borders.  With suggestions, and less mass scenes, poetic posters and noise, will we be able to refine those controls so that we can live with them. We need hundreds of thousands of guest workers every year. With an immigration policy that defines our needs  we can offer immigrants  a future in our country that is advantageous to the “land of the tired, the hungry, the weary and the oppressed”. We do have every right to open the door to our house to those we want in.

Europe, UK and the USA

Here in Spain it is shame, shame on the UK and the United States for demanding control on foreigners entering the country. The same sentiment is voiced around Europe where officially borders do not exist. That is pure nonsense. All around the EC there is serious popular unrest against the hundreds of thousands of Africans, Asians, Latin Americans who now make up a significant per-cent of the population. When European governments shake their finger in the nose of Donald Trump and PM May, let´s  remember how between Ceuta and Melilla and Morocco there are  double steel and bared wire fences that are separated by a no-man´s-land. There are fences too between Serbia and Hungary. In Seville, it was years before the city allowed a mosque to be built and the word for Latin Americans is sudacas. The populist opposition to illegals is what brought about Brexit and keep an eye on France, Germany, Holland and Hungary. Poland  has openly declared that is does not want Muslims. So, in the US, in many parts of Europe, in so many other places too, anti-foreign sentiment is well and prospering. Was it Voltaire or Franklin who stated that once you know humanity well you can not be let down? Opposition to Trump´s policy is easy, but if a nation  does not control its borders it is less than a nation. We all favor immigration and travel  but the movement of masses of people must be orderly. Along the Río Grande and in Europe there is chaos.
